ROMNEY HYTHE RAILWAY

Steam train BOILER INLET REPLACEMENT

Timeframe

6 weeks

The Brief:

Milling of both Faces on a worn Cast Iron Steam Train Boiler.

HotchkissWestwell have over 20 years’ experience within the Railway industry, which rely on tough, high-quality engineering solutions. This unit was 5 metres long and weighed about 10 Tonnes.

The Romney Hythe steam train needed specialised work to keep it in fully working order

The Solution:

The unit was secured to the milling machine. The surfaces were machined anew using a face milling cutter. New hole positions were marked and drilled precisely. If necessary, holes were shaped or enlarged using a milling cutter. The work was inspected and measured for accuracy. The surfaces were deburred and the unit was cleaned thoroughly. Finally, it was ensured that the re-machined unit met customer requirements.
