REJOURNAL - LIQUID NITROGEN

Timeframe

6 weeks

The Brief:

Reel Spool worn bearing seat on the journal, which necessitates the manufacture of a new journal for the customer.

If you need to fix a worn journal shaft, we recommend using liquid nitrogen to shrink it into the roll instead of welding it up.

The Solution:

We carefully set the 6 Meter Long x 500mm diameter Reel Shell into our large capacity CNC lathe. Our skilled technicians then proceeded to machine out the worn journal completely, ensuring that the roll cover remained undamaged throughout the process. We then manufactured a new shaft and shrink fit it to the Reel Shell, using precision techniques to ensure a perfect fit. The roll weighed around 8 Tonnes.

If you need to fix a worn journal shaft, we recommend using liquid nitrogen to shrink it into the roll instead of welding it up. This will prevent any unwanted welding and help complete the job effectively. Liquid nitrogen has several uses in engineering such as cooling materials during manufacturing processes, preserving biological samples, and shrink-fitting metal components together. It’s a versatile substance that can benefit many industries.
